Business Analyst – Accounting Ecosystem @SmartBill
This is a SmartBill position. You will join their team and work exclusively on SmartBill’s products.
About SmartBill
At SmartBill, we have a clear mission: We help business owners & accountants win together through a unified workflow and smart automations so they can do more business and less paperwork.
Our vision is: To become the ecosystem where the Romanian entrepreneurs and accountants grow their businesses and reach their financial goals. Together. With clarity and confidence.
We are in the process of building the next major stage in the evolution of SmartBill Conta, and we are looking for an exceptional person to help us win the minds and hearts of accountants in Romania.
About Your Role
This is not a typical Business Analyst role. We are looking for someone who can be both the expert voice of the accountant within the team and the quality gatekeeper of what we deliver.
You will be the vital bridge between the complex needs of accounting professionals and our development team. Your mission is to transform these needs into a "magical ecosystem" – an intuitive, reliable, and "magically simple" product that will fundamentally change their way of working.
You are obsessed with the customer (in this case, the accountant), you deeply understand the legislation and accounting workflows, and you are able to translate this understanding into clear user stories and epics that generate real value.
What You Will Do
Act as a Domain Expert: You will be the "go-to" person for the development team and Product Owner for expert opinions and validations in the accounting and financial domain.
Needs Discovery and Analysis: You will work directly with accountants, the support team, and customer success to deeply understand their problems, challenges, and opportunities.
Building Requirements: You will analyze and translate business and user needs into clear functional requirements, user stories, epics, and acceptance criteria.
UX/UI Collaboration: You will collaborate closely with the UX/UI team to design workflows and interfaces that are intuitive, efficient, and "magically simple."
Quality Assurance (Quality Gatekeeper): You will ensure the quality and value of the deliverables. You will actively participate in manual testing of new features to ensure they not only work correctly but also solve the customer's core problem to high standards.
Backlog Management: You will collaborate with the Product Owner to prioritize the team's backlog, ensuring alignment with product strategy and business objectives.
Communication and Alignment: You will ensure team alignment (through presentations, daily stand-ups) and present demos and business cases to stakeholders.
Contribute to Go-to-Market: You will contribute to user documentation and help articles, ensuring a successful launch of new features.
What We Are Looking For
This role requires a unique set of skills. The ideal profile combines accounting expertise with technical agility.
Must-Have Requirements:
Strong Understanding of Accounting: You possess a solid understanding of core accounting principles and workflows, gained through practical experience (minimum 3-5 years) in a role like accountant, financial controller, or a similar position. You understand the world of declarations, balance sheets, and month-end closings (CECCAR membership is a plus, but not required).
Business Analyst Experience: You have proven experience (minimum 2-3 years) as a Business Analyst, Product Owner, or Product Specialist in an Agile software development environment (Scrum/Kanban).
Analytical Thinking and Problem-Solving: You are an expert at breaking down complex problems into simple, logical components.
Customer-Obsessed: You have deep empathy for the end-user. You are driven by the desire to solve their problems.
Exceptional Communication Skills: You can explain complex accounting concepts to the technical team and present technical solutions to non-technical stakeholders.
Act Like an Owner: You have a proactive attitude, take responsibility for results, and are action-oriented.
Tool Experience: You are familiar with JIRA, Confluence, or similar tools.
Nice-to-Have Requirements:
Experience working with prototyping tools (Figma, Balsamiq, Adobe XD).
Basic SQL knowledge for querying databases.
Previous experience in the SaaS or FinTech industry.
Experience in managing incidents or escalations from support.
Why You Will Fall in Love with SmartBill
Impact: You have the rare opportunity to revolutionize an entire industry in Romania and improve the lives of thousands of accountants and entrepreneurs.
Culture: We live by our values: Act Like an Owner, Be Customer-Obsessed, Find Joy in the Journey, Create Magical Simplicity.
Autonomy: We offer a work environment based on trust and responsibility, where you can have a real and visible impact.
The People: You will work alongside top professionals, passionate about what they do, in a collaborative and friendly environment.
