Meet Visma Tech Portugal Team
Discover Duarte's Story
Duarte Pina | Mobile QA Engineer
1. Describe your team and the product you are developing in a few words.
I am a part of the Mobile team at e-conomic, a product part of Visma Group. We develop and test e-conomic's iOS and Android mobile apps using native technologies, namely Swift and Kotlin. We are responsible for that they provide a great experience for our users, and that they perform smoothly while also delivering new features that improve that experience.
2. How did you first learn about Visma and what attracted you to join us?
I was initially approached by Visma, and that's when I first learned about the company. As my role would involve working with Mobile, I was very engaged from the start, since it is my favourite tech stack. Then, as I got more information about the role and the company, the challenge of working in a new business area while having the support and stability of the huge Visma structure around the world was what really attracted me to take on the challenge.
3. What aspects of Visma culture have had the most significant impact on your day-to-day work?
From the start, I felt a lot of support from everyone at Visma, from my team and the Porto office. This helps day-to-day go much smoother because you always have someone available to answer your questions or help you out accessing information. Additionally, there is genuine care in making sure you have everything you need at all times, and this team spirit and culture of help gets embedded into all of us daily, creating an amazing environment where people get along really well and there is a lot of support when doing our day-to-day.
4. What benefits or perks offered by Visma do you find most valuable or unique?
For me, the fact that the benefits are flexible is amazing. As an example, the Flex Benefits we have, that allow us to choose whatever best fits our needs is really great, since I can apply them to whatever my needs are for that specific month. I also really enjoy all the team activities we do, they are great to spend some time meeting the people we work with in a more casual environment and creating a culture of friendship. The other benefit I want to mention is the care with our work-life balance. There is genuine support from management and team members to ensure we have everything to do our work but also that we are not overburdened.
5. How about your own story? How did you become a QA Engineer?
I first started as a QA Engineer for the video games industry. I had the opportunity to merge something I really loved as a hobby into my work.
From there I started growing into the role and started learning more about testing methodologies and approaches. Then, I had the opportunity to work in many different amazing places and industries, which allowed me to learn even more, to learn and work in test automation and to really solidify my skills. It also allowed me to work in different countries and meet many people from all parts of the world. In the last few years I have been working on consolidating my skills and working on more senior positions, implementing test automation frameworks and taking ownership of the quality of the projects I work on.
6. What do you like to do most outside of work?
I like to split my time between at-home activities and outside activities. I enjoy playing video games, or a good movie or TV show, but I also enjoy going for walks, going to the gym and playing padel.
