Pedro Carvalho | Full-stack Developer
1. Hi! What's your name and current role?
Hello! My name is Pedro Carvalho, and my current role is as a Full-stack Developer at Romslomp, a Visma company from The Netherlands.
2. Describe your team and the product you are developing in a few words.
Romslomp builds an online bookkeeping tool designed to help small Dutch entrepreneurs manage invoicing, quoting, cost estimating and receipt generation processes.
In simple words, the product I'm developing focuses on facilitating the life of business owners by making their the accounting side of business easier so they have more time for their daily lives, and I'm lucky to work with very talented and caring people who I can also enjoy fun times with.
3. How did you first learn about Visma and what attracted you to join us?
I learned about Visma while looking for job opportunities with Ruby on Rails. I really liked the culture of the company and how it shares the same work values as I do, which was further confirmed in the interviews.
4. What aspects of Visma culture have had the most significant impact on your day-to-day work?
I would highlight here the flexibility and autonomy, especially while working in different time zones. For instance, I appreciate very much this, it is also very important to me, as I go back to my hometown in the Azores, which is happening now and then, like recently the case when I stayed there for two months.
5. What benefits or perks offered by Visma do you find most valuable or unique?
One of the perks that really caught my attention was a mental health free consultation, but I also really like the fact that they use Coverflex which is a great way to have monetary benefits.
6. How about your own story? How did you become a developer?
I decided to become a developer when I had an introduction to Java in my last year of high school and really enjoyed it! I was already into technology in general when I was younger but that course helped me realize how much I liked programming!
7. What do you like to do most outside of work?
Probably my favourite thing to do is listen to music, I do it along with pretty much any and every activity in my daily life no matter the mood or genre.
